“The Big Reveal and Thank you for Rain” — Formula One Monaco 2023
Welcome to Monaco, a mythical place for motorsport and the place of one of the triple crowns. The track is narrow, fast, and with beautiful scenarios. Not only this is a special event but it is also a track with different characteristics, where the tire degradation is low, DRS is almost nonexisting, traction is crucial and the straights are not long to reach a big top speed. All these features made me believe that the pack will be close and we could have some surprises on the top places in the race.
The Qualifying was very good, Q1 and Q2 showed us that everyone was close to each other and the elimination was always done by less than one-tenth of a second, but the real magic was performed in the last attempt for pole position. With 3 minutes and 22 seconds to go, a surprising Esteban Ocon took 1st place, then Charles Leclerc took his position by 0,082, Alonso took then the position with 0,022 and finally Verstappen after losing 2 tenths of a second in the first two sectors of a second, was able to recover in the last sector and conquer the first position by 0,084.
